5 Things To Ask Before Buying Any Product

5 Questions to Ask Before You Buy Anything

(Because Your House Doesn’t Need More Stuff with Commitment Issues)

1. Who actually made this—and where?

Not the brand. Not the influencer gently stroking it in good lighting.
Who physically made it? Where? And are they proud enough to say so out loud?

If the answer sounds like a CIA briefing—
“Globally sourced… ethically inspired… details unavailable”
that’s your sign.

2. What is it really made of?

Ignore the poetry. Focus on the parts.

“Wool-feel” is not wool.
“Farmhouse wood” is sometimes glue and wishes.
“Vegan leather” is usually plastic in a confidence blazer.

Ask yourself:
Will this age gracefully… or peel like a bad sunburn?

3. Is this built to last—or built to emotionally manipulate me?

Some things are designed to:

  • break

  • go out of style

  • or fall apart just after the return window closes

Ask:

  • Can this be repaired?

  • Will I still like this when the trend dies?

  • Would I hand this down… or hide it in the garage?

Durability is boring. That’s how you know it works.

4. What does this actually cost beyond the price tag?

That “great deal” might cost:

  • your time (replacing it)

  • your patience (fixing it)

  • or your sanity (why did I buy this?)

Cheap usually means someone else paid instead.
And eventually… so will you.

5. Do I want this—or did the internet bully me into it?

Be honest.
Was it solving a real problem…
or did it promise a version of you who:

  • wakes up early

  • drinks hot coffee

  • and owns beige linen pants?

If it only exists in your fantasy life, step away from checkout.

Some things should be cheap. Some things should be thoughtful.
Knowing the difference is the skill.
